How to choose a band name
- Say it out loud. Imagine a sound engineer or a radio host announcing it. If people mishear it or ask you to spell it, keep looking.
- Search before you fall in love. Use the Google and Spotify buttons on each name. If another active act already uses it, you will be fighting them in every search result.
- Check the handles. See whether the name is free on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and as a web domain. Small variations (adding “band” or “music”) are fine.
- Think about the logo. Short names look better on posters, merch and a bass drum. Very long names get shortened by fans anyway.
- Look at trademarks. For a serious project, check your country's trademark register and the EU or US databases before printing merch.
The generator combines word lists written for each style with a set of patterns typical for that genre, such as “The Adjective Nouns” or “Noun of Nouns”. Every click gives twelve fresh combinations. Add your own word to build names around an idea you already have, and star the ones you like to keep a shortlist.
