How to find the BPM of a song
- Play the song and listen for the beat you would naturally tap your foot to.
- Tap the pad, or press any key, on every beat. After a few taps the tempo appears.
- Keep tapping for 8–16 beats. The average of your latest taps gets more accurate, and Consistency shows how even your taps are.
Pause for two seconds and the counter starts fresh, so you can measure a new song straight away. Press Escape or Reset to clear it by hand.
Half time or double time?
Many songs can be felt at two speeds. A slow ballad tapped on every eighth note shows double the tempo. The half-time and double-time values help you pick the one that matches how the song is written, for example 85 instead of 170 BPM for a hip-hop groove.
