How to use the metronome
Set the tempo with the slider or the buttons, choose a time signature, and press Start. The first beat of the bar is accented by default. Click any beat circle to change it: orange is accented, blue is a normal click, and dashed is silent. That makes it easy to practise odd meters like 7/8 grouped as 2+2+3, or to leave out beats 2 and 4 to test your own time.
Subdivisions
Add quiet clicks between the beats to hear eighth notes, triplets or sixteenth notes. In x/8 meters the BPM counts eighth notes.
Tempo markings
The Italian marking under the number is a rough guide: Largo is around 40–60 BPM, Adagio 66–76, Andante 76–108, Moderato 108–120, Allegro 120–156 and Presto 168–200. Composers and editions vary, so treat them as a starting point.
Does it keep good time?
Yes. Clicks are scheduled ahead on the browser's audio clock rather than with screen timers, so the beat stays steady even if the page is busy. For the best result keep this tab in front while you play.
