How to transpose chords

  1. Paste a song sheet, a chord chart or just a list of chords into the left box. The example song is there to show the idea.
  2. Press + or − to move everything up or down by semitones. The result updates as you type.
  3. Copy the result back into your songbook.

Chords written above the lyrics keep their position over the right syllable. Chords inside square brackets, like [Am7] in ChordPro format, are transposed anywhere in the text. Words in the lyrics are left alone.

Using a capo

Pick a capo fret and the result shows the chord shapes to play with the capo on, while the song still sounds in the key above. For example, a song in A played with a capo on the 2nd fret uses G shapes.

Sharps or flats?

On Auto the tool spells chords the way they appear in the new key, so you get B♭ and E♭ in F major but A♯ and D♯ in B major. Choose ♯ or ♭ to force one spelling.

Which chords are understood?

Major, minor, sevenths, maj7, sus, add, dim, aug, extensions like 9, 11 and 13, altered notes like 7♭9, and slash chords such as D/F♯.
